“As a dentist, we are given a unique set of skills; using those skills to serve those who lack dental care makes a huge impact in their life. What came as a surprise was how much my time at More Smiles has made a positive impact on me.”
Volunteer – Frequently Asked Questions:
Who volunteers at More Smiles Wisconsin?
We are fortunate to have a group of passionate volunteer dentists, assistants, hygienists, UW students, foreign trained dentists, and community members. There are also oral surgeon and endodontic specialists in the area who take referrals on our behalf.
Why is More Smiles Wisconsin needed?
A review of our data shows that 75% of our patients are at or even below 100% of the Federal Poverty Line. More Smiles Wisconsin patients are all uninsured or have Medicaid / BadgerCare+. According to Dane County Public Health, in 2014, less than HALF of Medicaid enrollees had access to dental care. This statistic does not account for the many poor and uninsured individuals also lacking dental services. Our staff and volunteers provide needed care throughout the week, helping hundreds of individuals each year remove severe dental pain.
When can I volunteer?
For Dentists: More Smiles Wisconsin has a weekly emergency clinic on Thursday’s from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. We also have regular needs for volunteer dentists to donate a morning or afternoon time Monday-Friday for more comprehensive dental services. We are very flexible about accommodating your availability!
For Hygienists and other Providers: Celebrate the passage of AB146 with More Smiles. Hygienists no longer need on-site dentist supervision for community clinics, we are flexible to your volunteer schedule. Our needs are greatest on Wednesdays/Fridays during our regular clinic hours 8:00am-4:00pm.
For Students and Community Volunteers: We have very flexible options for education, office, and support volunteers. Please sign up on the form below to let us know your interests.
How can I help?
Volunteering on-site is the number one way to help. If you’re unable to volunteer, asking your dentist or other providers to support More Smiles helps build our awareness and grow our dedicated volunteer pool. Monetary donations or equipment/supply donations are also always appreciated.
We would love to have you volunteer with us, a quick sign-up form can be found here.
